Predictions for the 90th Academy Awards

It is that time of year again: The Oscars. Unlike most years, I thought that this year was weak, particularly in the for the lead and supporting actor categories. This year there was no real frontrunner a la “La La Land.” Now it’s time to make some predictions.

Picture: “The Shape of Water”

Director: Guillermo Del Toro – “The Shape of Water”

Actor: Gary Oldman – “The Darkest Hour” (Lock)

Actress: Frances McDormand – “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” (I hope Saoirse Ronan pulls the upset)

Supporting Actor: Sam Rockwell – “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”

Supporting Actress: Allison Janney – “I, Tonya” (The other nominees are merely a formality)

Original Screenplay: Jordan Peele – “Get Out” (Lock)

Adapted Screenplay: As much as I want “Logan” to take this; it will go to “Call Me by Your Name”

Animated Feature: “Coco” (Lock)

Original Score: Johnny Greenwood – “Phantom Thread”

Original Song- “This is Me” – “The Greatest Showman”

Sound Editing/Mixing: “Baby Driver”

Production/Costume Design: “Beauty and the Beast”

Cinematography: Roger Deakins – “Blade Runner 2049”

Film Editing: “Dunkirk”

VFX: “Blade Runner 2049”
